FOOD FOR HELPLESS
It is well known fact that one’s health is the greatest asset of human life. So,in order to maintain a healthy life nutrition plays an important role. The food that we eat must have all the required vitamins and minerals to sustain us.Our diet impacts our physical and mental health. Food insecurity and poor nutrition are the major problems that decreases the quality of life. In our survey of Kalimpong & Darjeeling Districts we found that the present nutrition status among our people is in an alarming state with the main victims being women and children. The other victims of malnutrition are the homeless people living on the streets who do not have access to good and healthy food. Our Initiative: FOOD FOR HELPLESS has been providing food to the street dwellers on a daily basis since 29th May, 2014 and is still continuing in the present day also. Our focus is to improve the diet condition and nutritional status by providing food and spreading awareness. Annually we distribute almost 15,000 packets of food which includes 300 gms of rice, a packet of dal (pulses), 150 gms of veg/non-veg curry and clean drinking water. Till date we have distributed an approximate 55,000 nos of food packets.
